Last month, we addressed the speculation from tipsters about the status of King Foot Subs, which has been closed since early April. Now, a Craigslist ad has been posted listing 258 Divisadero St. for rent, confirming our fears (along with tipster Jim S.) that King Foot Subs will not be returning to the location.

The ad notes high ceilings with excellent light and a great location as attributes of the space, which can be rented as 425 square feet for $3,800 a month, or 505 square feet for $5,000 a month.

Interestingly, the ad also mentions that the commercial space next door may be available if the future tenant needs more space. This would refer, we assume, to the shuttered Viper Vapor which closed at the end of May. That space is also up for lease.

Both properties, as well as Sam's Smoke Shop, Bus Stop Pizza and the former KK Cafe, are owned by Graystone, which is rumored by some to have been "forcing" its tenants to remodel. In the case of KK Cafe, the $6,000 cost of repairing a rooftop vent was the last straw for owners Jack and Margaret Chang, who closed their storefront in January

Building permits filed with the Planning Department corroborate this rumor, at least for 258 Divisadero. On March 25th, a permit was filed for $22,000 worth of interior improvements, ranging from floor replacements to improving kitchen appliances. Shortly after this permit was filed, King Foot Subs closed its doors.

A visit to the former home of King Foot Subs this morning showed a gutted, empty storefront.

The last line of the Craigslist ad states, "Most importantly please let me know what use you are planning for the space," which brings into question what the landlord's ideal tenant would be. We'll let you know as soon as we hear of someone new moving in.
