Today I attempted to fulfill my civic duty as a resident of San Francisco and join my fellow prospective jurors at the massive concrete courthouse on Bryant Street, conveniently located across from Aladdin Bailbonds. To begin the day about 300 of my peers filed into the juror assembly room and were shown two videos which stressed how critical the jury's role is in protecting the fabric of our community. Then the judge came in and stressed that a young man's life was up to 12 of the most reasonable and trust worthy citizens in the room. The only catch was that the case proceedings could last up to 10 weeks. At this moment there palpable panic within the assembly room as hundreds of people attempted to push their way to the judge and explain their reason why they could not serve. I admit that I was also one of those people. I'm not proud of it. Which is why I ask the same question to you. How much of your time would you volunteer to participate in your communities' judicial process?
