I met Barry while shooting some photographs in Times Square. He handed me a pamphlet for a bus tour of NYC. This is a snippet of my conversation with him:
ME: "Have you ever had a bad experience with a tourist?"
BARRY: "Oh yes. Once someone came up to me and started cursing at me, saying f**k you and everything. I told him to get out of my face.
'I respect you, but don't disrespect me because I sell things on the street. I probably make more money than you do.'"
ME: "That's horrible. I'm sorry that happened to you."
BARRY: "Yeah, it's just how it is sometimes.
Anyways, what do you do?"
ME: "Oh, I write!"
BARRY: "Oh really? I want to write a book. I want to send you something to read. Maybe we can bounce ideas off of each other one day."
