The restaurant's owners announced the closure on social media, according to News12 New York, telling patrons the eatery would serve a final meal “so that we may say goodbye to our patrons from the last 65 years.” The owners thanked everyone and the town of Sayville for their support, and Sunday marked the restaurant's last business day.
Historical reporting from The Suffolk County News identifies Frank Pezzuto and Chad Johnson as longtime co-owners of Sayville Pizza and reports that the business went up for sale in 2020.
New Owners Took Over, Then Rebranded the Space
Daniel Gambino and George Constantino purchased the business in October 2021, marking the ownership transition with a grand reopening ribbon-cutting that included $1 slice specials, per Patch. Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar hosted that reopening ceremony, welcoming the new owners to Main Street; Patch reported that customers could expect new menus and products.
In May 2023, Gambino rebranded the restaurant as Metros on Main, according to the outlet's report. The rebrand marked a new chapter for the business, which had operated for decades as Sayville Pizza.

The closure comes as independent restaurants continue to navigate changing financial conditions across the region.
