Walk down East 41st Street, between Fifth Avenue and Park Avenue, and you’ll notice several bronze plaques on the ground, integrated into the cement. I came upon this discovery while I was walking down the block, looking down at my phone. I found the plaques to be extremely inspirational and wanted to share a few:
This short stretch of sidewalk is known as “Library Way” and it paves a direct path to the New York Public Library (NYPL). Back in the late 90s, the Grand Central Partnership (GCP) completed the project with help from NYPL, various library organizations, the New York City Department of Transportation and the tenants/property owners of 41st street. The bronze plaques, designed by artist Gregg LeFevre, feature several quotes about writing and reading, selected by a panel of literary experts.
As a book lover myself, I couldn’t help but smile. It was nice to suddenly feel inspired on a regular, otherwise non-spectacular day. My favorite quote of the bunch was this one:
