I briefly peered into the past when I strolled by this stand the other day:
You will this green shoe shine station by Bryant Park on 42nd St, in front of the New York Public Library. It’s not something you come across every day, but I love how it’s erected in the middle of a busy street. Somehow, it blends into the fabric of daily city life, just like New York City’s famous horse carriages.
Today, the shoe shining station is still in use and if you walk close enough to it, you’ll see why. There’s a plaque in the middle seat that reads the following:
"For 27 years, Willy Rivers worked to keep alive the tradition of outdoor shoe shining at Bryant Park."
So thanks Willy Rivers.
