How to Celebrate Spring the Rite Way

Flowers are finally beginning to bloom, decorating New York with spots of color after a grey and gloomy winter season. In celebration of the warmer weather, people are heading to Brooklyn Botanic Garden to view the gardens and the wide variety of seasonal plants.

Every year, New Yorkers particularly look forward to Sakura Matsuri, BBG’s annual cherry blossom festival which celebrates traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.

Sakura Matsuri is considered by many to be “New York City’s rite of spring.” This year marks the 35th anniversary of the festival, and over 60 events will take place on April 30 and May 1.

Scheduled performances include "Samurai Sword Soul," a drama by martial arts masters and KuroPOP, a J-pop dance party. You can also expect to come across tea ceremonies, live art demonstrations and cosplay-themed panels.
