The gym can be expensive. The cost of a monthly membership adds up, giving many of us an excuse to forgo our workouts. If you’re strapped for cash, but concerned about your health and fitness, try attending a Shape Up NYC class. The free, drop-in fitness program holds classes every day in all five boroughs.
The best part of the program is that there is no membership. You also don’t need to register in order to attend a class. Simply check the Shape Up NYC website and input your desired time frame to see what classes are available. Some options include “Latin Cardio,” “Dancercise,” “Bouncing to the Beat of the B-B-Beatles” and, my personal favorite, “Sit and Be Fit.”
You can also apply to become a fitness instructor by attending a 10-week training program, which focuses on topics such as basic anatomy and injury prevention. After the first eight weeks, participants are equipped to lead one class per week for a six-month period.
