A large green and blue sign on the Museum of Arts and Design building caught my attention. In big, bold letters, it stated: “enter other worlds here.” Under the text, a line of arrows pointed downward toward a small porthole.
I had to peer inside.
With one eye shut, I gazed into the fisheye lens and found myself staring at an entire miniature landscape. It was oddly calming to look at, even as I stood in the middle of Columbus Circle.
Artist Patrick Jacobs, who currently lives and works in Brooklyn, created these dioramas using artificial material such as plastic, paper and metal. Because of how they are designed, viewers are instantly teleported into the space and left alone with their imagination for a brief moment.
