There are many places to hold a fitness class. Right in the middle of 34th Street probably isn’t ideal, but New Yorkers have never been keen on sticking to the status quo.
Plus, it’s a free country, so why not show off your new neon leggings to as many people as you can?

Admittedly, it is an odd location to host a class, but watching people bust out mountain climbers is also wildly entertaining.
The class, hosted by Tone House, is part of a series of events taking place this year across the 34th Street District, which is comprised of 31 blocks in the “heart of Manhattan.”
It’s a prime tourist location as well as a busy shopping hub, filled with over 175 department stores, boutiques and specialty shops. Over 100,000 office workers also travel to the area on a daily basis, commuting from places such as Long Island or New Jersey.
Just take a look at the action:
One thing is for certain: Herald Square has definitely come a long way since the 1800s, when the area was still regarded as farmland.
Today, the 34th Street Partnership (34SP) continues to revitalize and improve the district by working with local property owners, businesses and city officials. The private management company, established in 1992, is currently organized as a BID (business improvement district), a formal organization dedicated to improving the overall quality of life within an area.

As part of this ongoing mission, 34SP will continue to host outdoor events, such as Tone House fitness classes. You can also learn how to juggle, participate in an improv session or eat your way through a French style market — all during a regular work week.
While you're at it, make sure to thank the 34th Street Partnership for the much-improved streetscape (benches, information booths, bike racks, etc.) and the “free, immaculate, luxuriously appointed and fully staffed restrooms.”
