In 2014, Brooklyn-based artist Gold Poo began decorating dog turds with gold spray paint. The bizarre, yet oddly alluring project – documented via Instagram (www.instagram.com/goldpoonyc) - initially began as a joke, but eventually transformed into somewhat of an artistic statement.

“People are insanely superficial and really attracted to shiny things,” he stated in a 2014 Huffington Post article. “And nine times outta 10, it’s all shit underneath anyways.”
His project must have inspired an audience because Bushwick eventually gave rise to a second poop artist – one yielding gold glitter rather than spray paint as his or her decorative weapon of choice.
Unsurprisingly, this led to a strange “turf war” with Gold Poo claiming initial jurisdiction over the streets of Brooklyn.
Gold Poo, however, has more than just one rival to worry about. In yet another twist, a third Brooklynite is now posting pictures of poop under the Instagram account @Shitsofbushwick (www.instagram.com/Shitsofbushwick).
But be warned. Nothing is left to the imagination this time around, as all fecal matter has been captured in its raw, unaltered state.
