The view from a New York City apartment isn’t usually something to write home about. Consider yourself lucky if you do live in a complex with rooftop access, window balconies or fire escapes.
The alternative, especially if you live on a lower floor, is an expansive view of an alleyway or the building next door. Not that we’re complaining, but if you do want to get a semi-decent view of the sunrise, you’ll have visit these New York City spots.
1. Brooklyn Bridge Park
Head to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade early in the morning to catch the sunrise anywhere alongside the waterfront. From your vantage point, you’ll see the sun, the Manhattan skyline, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. BQE between Joralemon Street and Grace Court, Brooklyn.
2. Coney Island
While you wait for the sun to rise, explore Coney Island’s famous amusement park and walk along the boardwalk before heading down to its sandy shores. 1208 Surf Ave., Coney Island.
3. Gantry Park
Gantry Plaza State Park is a 12-acre “riverside oasis,” which gives you a direct view of the midtown skyline from any of its four piers. 4-09 47th Road, Long Island City.
4. Roosevelt Island
Lying between Manhattan and Queens, Roosevelt Island sits in the East River, directly under the Queensboro Bridge. Riding the tram from Manhattan on 59th & 2nd Ave will give you an incredible vantage point of the city before you reach the island. 59th Street.
5. Staten Island Ferry
A five mile, 25-minute ride on the Staten Island Ferry will provide you with an unbeatable view of the New York Harbor — and a great start to the day.
