The interior of the Oracle Club looks like it could serve as the backdrop to any Harry Potter movie.
The arts club, located on 47th Avenue in Long Island City, sits mysteriously on a random street, across the road from a fire station. With no proper storefront, it’s oddly mystifying.
Glancing into its full-length window, you’ll notice an open book placed in the center of the room with a magnifying glass resting peacefully in between its pages. The rest of the club is filled with aged furniture, giving the space an intimate and old-timey appearance.
Since it was established, the Oracle Club has served as a gathering place for artists, writers and other likeminded intellectuals. It is the brainchild of author Julian Tepper and artist Jenna Gribbon, who created the space in 2011.
As its epic name might suggest, the club is rather exclusive in nature. Potential members need to first apply in order to be granted access to the space. Following acceptance, members pay $150 per month, which allows them to use the private tables, the extensive library and the salon room for meetings. Beneath the salon, there is also studio space for artists.
