There's a brand-new sushi bar in town. Located at 735 S Figueroa St. in DTLA, the fresh arrival is called Gulp Sushi-Alehouse.
Gulp Sushi, which recently took over the former City Tavern space in the Target Center, is a beer-centric pub serving up a full menu of sushi, burgers and sandwiches, salads and more.
Familiar sushi is on the menu, including maguro, uni, salmon, and aji, but there's an array of speciality rolls as well, such as the Bentley (spicy tuna, avocado and seared salmon), the DTLA (spicy yellowtail and cucumber), or the Snowman (shrimp tempura, snow crab, cucumber and avocado with soy paper). (You can see the full sushi menu here.)
If you're looking for something else, there's the Extreme Gulp Burger or the Ramen Burger (chuck patty, pickled serrano peppers, napa cabbage, Swiss cheese, roasted red pepper on a rice noodle bun with lemongrass aioli and fries).
With a four-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the new sushi bar has made a promising start.
G G., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on August 18th, said: "Gulp has replaced what was "City Tavern" in the food court of the Target Center in DTLA."
Yelper Hezron A. added: “I like the vibe at this place: cool Music and sports on tv. Great variety of beer and cool drinks & i like their sushi. I wasn't much of a sushi eater but Champi their sushi chef is awesome.”
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Gulp Sushi-Alehouse is open Thursday–Saturday from 11am–midnight, and Sunday–Wednesday from 11am–11pm.
