Earlier this month, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, causing widespread devastation.
It was the worst storm to hit the island since 1928, leaving extensive property damage and power outages predicted to last for months. About 40 percent of the US territory's 3.5 million residents no longer have access to running water.
As the federal government sends resources to the area, the situation is growing more dangerous by the hour. Hospitals are running on generators, but without fuel deliveries, many face closure. Because most cell towers were knocked down in the storm, communication to and within the island is severely restricted.
The island's ports are open, but with many roads still blocked by debris nine days after the hurricane made landfall, many residents are isolated and depending on dwindling supplies.
While ABC7 put together a guide to organizations that are asking for help, Hoodline tipster Javier T. let us know that a group is holding an event tomorrow to collect first aid supplies and other items.
If you know of other benefits over the next couple of weeks in San Francisco and Oakland, submit an event, and we'll update this list.
