So you've both swiped right, and now it's time to pick a spot to meet for the first time. You're looking for something casual (in case things go off the rails), but still fun and sociable (in case they go better than expected). From an atmospheric cup of coffee to a low-pressure meal, here are five affordable spots in Philadelphia that are perfect for those occasionally awkward initial meetings, no matter how they turn out.

A Cup of Coffee: La Colombe
Rittenhouse Square

This spacious, classy and centrally-located outpost of Philly-based La Colombe coffee isn't just a pleasant cafe in its own right. You'll also be right off of one of the city's finest parks: Rittenhouse Square. Consider getting the coffee to go and heading out on a scenic stroll—if you find the weather, and company, suitable. Or stay inside and make use of the comfortable seating. In any case, try the draft latte.

A Fast-Casual Meal: Smart Street Healthy Kitchen & Juice Bar

The long, healthy menu serves all diets, whether you or your date wants a generous salad, a beefy burger or a refreshing smoothie. There's casual seating inside the sparkling new location, which is getting strong reviews but hasn't quite been discovered. Rittenhouse Square and the rest of Center City provide a bigger venue if you're looking for a grander setting.

After-Work Happy Hour: Bud & Marilyn's
Washington Square West

This trendy yet casual restaurant has a retro food and drink menu, but it's new, and makes happy hour a focus. There's a lot of no-reservation seating, and a happy hour drink menu from 5pm to 7pm that includes beer, wine, a rotating slushy selection, and cocktails for around $5 (and great food for not much more if you and your data get hungry).

Playing a Game Together: University Family Fun Center
University City

For a few tokens, you and your date can explore the wide world of arcade games—not just old-school video games but pinball, air hockey, mini-hoops, wheels of fortune, and a huge selection of others you may have seen at carnivals or family-friendly venues over the years. Winning games can earn you tickets that you redeem for the sorts of prizes you might also have seen at the county fair. Tokens start at $1 for 4 at one of the few traditional arcades left in the city, and open hours are from 8am to midnight every day.

Dessert For Two: Capogiro Gelato
Center City

With a few Center City locations—and some of the best gelato in the country—Capogiro is an easy choice for a dessert date. You'll find a large and constantly-changing mix of the Italian-style ice cream, including traditional varieties with hazelnuts or cherries, and locally-inspired new ones made with apple cider, whiskey, even yams. Try the giant sundae to share, if you and your date are feeling up to it.
