The holiday shopping season is in full swing. But if you haven't started checking items off your list, don't panic. Throughout the month, holiday markets are popping up all around the city, promising to make your shopping experience a festive, one-stop experience.
Here's a look at several upcoming markets, catering to eclectic interests from vintage fashion to punk rock memorabilia to Star Wars and beyond.
December 15-17th
The holiday pop-up shop Saturday, Dec. 16th, at Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse, Inc. in Kensington is also an opportunity to support a black-owned business. The comic bookshop and cafe—popular for its unapologetically nerdy watch parties, open mic nights and author meet and greets—hopes the event will make supporting the community's black entrepreneurs easier this holiday shopping season.
What better way to celebrate the release of the latest Star Wars flick than snagging photos will R2-D2 and shopping the handmade creations of fellow Star Wars nerds while hopped up on caffeinated beverages? If you agree, head over to Buzz Cafe Philly from 10am to 2pm this Saturday.
Oftentimes, the best gifts are gently used—or previously loved. That's why the local Baby Goods eXchange is hosting a community swap from 10am-1pm on Saturday at Circle of Hope in North Philly. All are invited, and folks are also encouraged to contribute items a baby or young child could need or want.
Two homegrown vintage shops, Cactus Collective and Shop Journal, are teaming up for a weekend-long pop-up shop in West Philly. The market will feature finds and re-creations from a variety of likeminded makers and sellers.
A $3 cover fee gets you Saturday and Sunday access to the annual Punk Rock Flea Market hosted by The Captain's Vintage. You'll find local purveyors sporting all the vintage and vintage-inspired punk rock gear you can imagine from 10am-5pm, on both days, at Bok in South Philly.
Southeast by Southeast Holiday Craft Fair
On Sunday, head back to Bok from 11am-3pm to shop and support artists representing the city's diverse immigrant and refugee populations. While you're there, you can also give back and donate a toy that will be gifted to a refugee child.
Daily Through Dec. 24th
Finally, don't forget the annual Christmas Village. Celebrating its 10th consecutive year, the German-style open air holiday market has returned to LOVE Park in the heart of the city. Through Christmas Eve, holiday shoppers can browse the wares of more than 80 vendors from around the world while enjoying the festive atmosphere, special performances and seasonal treats.
