5 New Businesses To Check Out In Venice

Interested in checking out the newest restaurant and retail additions to Venice? From a new clothing store to a yoga studio to a spot to score seafood tacos, read on for the newest businesses to arrive in the neighborhood.

Boy+Girl

214 Lincoln Blvd.

Boy+Girl is a stylish new spot to score children's clothing, along with housewares and a few women's clothing items as well. Billing itself as a maker of "clothes to live and grow up in," all of the company's items are designed in Venice Beach and produced in DTLA. 

Designer Christine Chang, an alum of Ralph Lauren and Nike, offers everything from tops to dresses to swimwear, along with some accessories like pottery and baby blankets. 

Boy+Girl currently holds five stars out of eight reviews on Yelp, indicating good reviews.

Yelper Christina T. noted: "I've shopped boy+girl online before and during my last visit to LA, I was so excited to see they opened a store. It's beautiful and the shopgirl was so sweet and knowledgeable! The clothes are very high-quality and sustainable; designed and made in LA."

Boy+Girl is open weekdays from 11am–6pm, and Saturday from 10am–6pm. (It's closed on Sunday.)

La Tostaderia

La Tostaderia—which got its start as a vendor at DTLA's Grand Central Market—specializes in seafood-focused Mexican fare, with tacos, tostadas and more. 

On the menu, expect to see items like octopus tacos with daikon, cucumbers, and bean sprouts; a fish ceviche with red onions and celery; and aguachile with raw shrimp, radishes, charred habanero sauce and more. 

There are also a few specials, like the "Patrona Burger" with shrimp, Oaxaca cheese and crispy potatoes.

With a 3.5-star rating out of 27 reviews on Yelp, La Tostaderia is still finding its way, but it's early days.

Yelper Taylor E., who reviewed La Tostaderia on February 4th, wrote: "Really, really good, flavorful tacos. Sitting outside here is wonderful as well. Price is good, as you get two big tacos. The fish was very fresh and the service was fast as well."

La Tostaderia is open Monday–Wednesday from 9am–6pm, and Thursday–Sunday from 9am–10pm.

Mystic Journey Yoga

New yoga studio Mystic Journey Yoga has a little something for everyone: yoga, meditation classes, special events, workshops, one-on-one private energy sessions, and a gallery collection of large specimen crystals. 

Classes include instruction in "aligning with love," "awakening the spirit Kundalini yoga" and "expansive heart meditation." There are also special workshops like prenatal reiki and a "transformative coaching circle."

With a five-star Yelp rating out of 11 reviews on Yelp, Mystic Journey Yoga has been getting positive attention.

Yelper Joy S., who reviewed Mystic Journey Yoga on December 9th, wrote: "Not even a shadow of a doubt: this place deserves five stars. It's been almost one month since I became a member for $99 per month (price goes up to $120 when renewing). It's been totally worth it."

Neighbor

Neighbor, a New American restaurant, is focused on casual small plates meant to be enjoyed with a cocktail at the bar. The evening menu features starters and bar bites like garden peas with burrata, cashew dukkah, and flowering mint; potato-ricotta gnocchi with asparagus, morels, parmesan, and opal basil; and Dungeness crab with sweet gem lettuce, buttermilk, dill, and juniper.

For main courses, Neighbor offers items like lamb saddle with eggplant and lime pickle; a prime strip steak with crushed potato, shallots, green watercress, and brown butter, and Pacific king salmon with wax bean, miso-mustard and peanut.

Rounding things out are desserts like local apricots with amaretti cookies and almond cream, and sweet cocktails like the "Kimmy Gimlet" (vodka, lime, basil, and sugar).

Yelp users are excited about Neighbor, which currently holds 4.5 stars out of 98 reviews on the site.

Yelper Alyssa F. noted: "The portions are small, but each dish was delicious. The decor and ambiance is calm, high-end, and open air. It's the perfect hideaway from the tourist destinations of Venice."

Neighbor is open weekdays from 5pm–midnight, Tuesday–Friday from 11am–3pm, Saturday from 10am–midnight, and Sunday from 10am–11pm.

Night + Market Sahm

Night + Market Sahm is is the third Thai eatery—"sahm" means three in Thai— from chef Kris Yenbamroong. It joins two earlier locations in Silver Lake and West Hollywood.

Like its sister restaurants, Night + Market Sahm specializes in modern Thai fusion eats. Look for the popular crispy rice salad with soured pork and raw ginger, the catfish tamale with pork fat baked in a banana leaf with chili and herbs, and braised fatty pork belly curry with pickled garlic and tamarind.

Yelp users are generally positive about Night + Market Sahm, which currently holds four stars out of 18 reviews on the site.

Yelper Leilani L., who reviewed Night + Market Sahm on February 12th, wrote: "This place is a fun twist on Thai fusion cuisine. I initially was expecting authentic Thai food, but was surprised to find a fusion. The wait is long, so be sure to get there ahead of time."
