A new Tex-Mex breakfast and brunch spot, offering tacos and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. HomeState, a newcomer to Highland Park, is located at 5611 N. Figueroa St., Unit 1.
This is the latest location for the local eatery, which first started in East Hollywood. HomeState owner Briana Valdez was inspired by a desire to connect with her Texan roots and culture, The Occidental Weekly reports.
Valdez developed the menu from her grandmother's old recipes, and is excited to share her childhood with the Los Angeles community.
On the menu, you'll find a variety of breakfast tacos and migas, a dish comprised of scrambled eggs, corn chips and cheese. The Tex-Mex favorite "Frito Pie in a Bag" is also available, as well as a Texas toast sandwich with organic chicken or shredded brisket, guacamole, cabbage slaw and pickled jalapeño.
With a four-star rating out of 28 reviews on Yelp (so far), HomeState is getting solid feedback from clientele.
Tania H., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 5th, said: "I absolutely love this place. Their food is great and I love the vibe."
Yelper Breana C. added: "HomeState delivered tasty queso, efficient food delivery and excellent customer service."
