A new Tex-Mex restaurant has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The new arrival to the South End, called Superica, is located at 101 W. Worthington Ave.
Housed in a 7,000-square-foot space with a patio, Superica comes courtesy of celebrated Atlanta chef Ford Fry, who owns a dozen restaurants in his home city. Two of those are Supericas; the restaurant also has a third location in Houston.
Chef Kevin Maxey helms the kitchen in the Charlotte location, and diners can expect Tex-Mex fare, as well as a cocktail menu emphasizing margaritas, agave spirits and local liquors, the Charlotte Observer reports.
On the menu, look for items for gulf red snapper on the bone with avocado and tomatillo salsa, wood-grilled skirt steak with two cheese enchiladas and a fried egg, and chiles rellenos filled with corn, mushrooms, and chihuahua cheese. Brunch options include huevos rancheros and tamales with eggs.
Superica has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of nine reviews on Yelp.
Haley + Carly B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 23, said, "The mole on the chicken enchilada was phenomenal; very rich with amazing flavor. Nachos are stellar as well; they dress their nachos individually, so that every chip is sure to have beans and cheese on top."
Yelper Claudia F. added, “The decor was great, and I appreciated that there was a bartender in a designated area to just make drinks for the dining room. That guaranteed we got our drinks quickly!”
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Superica is open from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and 5–10 p.m. on Monday-Wednesday, 5 a.m.–10 p.m. on Thursday, 5 a.m.–11 p.m. on Friday, 3–11 p.m. on Saturday, and 3–10 p.m. on Sunday.
