Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top Caribbean restaurants around New Orleans, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to venture when cravings strike.

1. The Rum House

Topping the list is The Rum House, which bills itself as a Caribbean taqueria. Located at 3128 Magazine St. in the Irish Channel, it's the most popular Caribbean restaurant in New Orleans, boasting four stars out of 1,151 reviews on Yelp.

The bar and restaurant offers an array of rum options from all over the world, as well as food items like flank steak in a ginger-soy-pineapple marinade, served with black beans and cornbread dressing, and half a roasted chicken marinated in a jerk rub, glazed with honey-ginger sauce and served with coconut mango rice.

2. Compère Lapin

Next up is Compère Lapin, which is helmed by Nina Compton, who was recently named the best chef in the South by the James Beard Foundation. With 4.5 stars out of 516 reviews on Yelp, the Caribbean and traditional American spot situated at 535 Tchoupitoulas St. has proven to be a local favorite.

Located in the Old No. 77 Hotel and Chandlery in the Warehouse District, this spot offers dishes like chilled oysters, cold-smoked tuna, conch, curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi, broiled shrimp and black-eyed peas. 

3. Coco Hut

The Seventh Ward's Coco Hut, located at 2515 Bayou Road, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the Caribbean and Latin American spot 4.5 stars out of 52 reviews.

"So delicious," noted Yelper Sarah M. "The owners are wonderful hosts. We recommend the mango and coconut chicken and the jerk chicken salad. We will definitely try it again when we're back in town."

4. Boswell's Jamaican Grill

Boswell's Jamaican Grill, a Caribbean spot located in Mid-City, is another go-to, with four stars out of 120 Yelp reviews. Head over to 3521 Tulane Ave. to see for yourself.

Get ready for oxtails with beans, jerk pork and fried fish po'boys, curried goat, stewed chicken, Jamaican rice and peas and a number of vegetarian options. 

5. Bar Redux

And then there's Bar Redux, a Bywater favorite with four stars out of 81 reviews. Stop by 801 Poland Ave. to hit up the colorful Caribbean and Creole spot — featuring live music and an outdoor patio — next time you're looking to satisfy your cravings.

Keep an eye out for a selection of Abita and Lagunitas beers, cocktails, burgers, nachos, and quesadillas — along with more traditional Southern fare like fried chicken, gumbo, red beans with hot sausage, and Creole Louisiana hot wings.
