Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top places to visit in the Detroit Shoreway, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of neighborhood businesses. Read on for the results.
1. Happy Dog

Topping the list is Happy Dog, a laid-back bar that offers live music and hot dogs with creative toppings. Located at 5801 Detroit Ave., it's the highest rated business in the neighborhood, boasting 4.5 stars out of 589 reviews on Yelp.
Happy Dog is known for showcasing local talent plus an eclectic mix of musical acts from across the country. Take a seat at the oval-shaped bar and sample the extensive list of craft, domestic and imported brews, wines and cocktails.
The custom-made hot dogs were conceived in collaboration with Momocho chef and owner Eric Williams, Happy Dog's website explains. Start with a classic beef hot dog or vegan sausage and choose toppings from dozens of options, including chorizo chili, nacho cheese, Froot Loops, sunny-side up egg and pimento mac and cheese. Tater tots and fries are also on the menu.
2. Sweet Moses Soda Fountain & Treat Shop

Next up is the charming Sweet Moses Soda Fountain & Treat Shop, which sells homemade ice cream, fudge and other sweet treats in a retro space. With 4.5 stars out of 335 reviews on Yelp, the shop at 6800 Detroit Ave. has proved to be a local favorite.
The ice cream parlor at Gordon Square is full of vintage details, like counter seats where you can watch the phosphate sodas being made, wrought-iron chairs, an old-fashioned cash register and an antique mirror. Yelp reviewer Sarah E. has high praise for the shop, saying it's a Cleveland gem that "will take you on a journey into a magical past."
There are enough offerings to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth, with caramel popcorn, chocolate confections, milk shakes, malts and signature sundaes like the Shoreway featuring coffee ice cream topped with hot fudge, toffee pieces and almonds.
3. Banter Beer & Wine

The simply decorated Banter Beer & Wine at Gordon Square is another top choice, serving up craft brews, global wines and heaping helpings of Quebec-style poutine. Yelpers give the business, located at 7320 Detroit Ave., 4.5 stars out of 115 reviews.
Pull up a stool to the long bar or relax at one of the picnic tables on the back patio. Hungry? Banter Beer & Wine makes its sausages in-house, from a vegan option to kielbasa to an Ohio maple bratwurst.
The real draw is the dozen different types of poutine, such as the rabbit pot pie (fries, braised rabbit, curds and gravy) and the chicken paprikash (fries, smoked chicken, spaetzle and crème fraîche). Pierogies, salads and cheese curds round out the menu.
4. Brewnuts

Pair your doughnuts with beer at the much-loved Brewnuts, a neighborhood go-to that has earned 4.5 stars out of 113 Yelp reviews. Head over to 6501 Detroit Ave. to try the unbeatable combination for yourself.
Both a corner doughnut shop and watering hole, Brewnuts has a fun, eclectic vibe with a neon sign that reads, "Donut mess with Cleveland" and colorful pop art.
All of the doughnuts are made by hand with a rotating selection of seasonal favorites. The coffee comes courtesy of the Cleveland-based Phoenix Coffee Co. and there are 16 local brews on tap.
5. Astoria Cafe & Market

Finally, check out Astoria Cafe & Market, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 87 reviews on Yelp. You can find the Mediterranean spot, which offers tapas and more, at 5417 Detroit Ave.
Open since 2016, the 5,000-square-foot Astoria is a little bit of everything: bar, deli featuring cheeses and meats, market selling Mediterranean imports and upscale cafe.
On the menu, look for brunch offerings like the blueberry quinoa pancakes with lemon crema and lunch and dinner options that include pizzas, salads and small plates.
