Looking to sample the best seafood around town?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top restaurants to score seafood in Detroit, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're on the hunt.

1. Vicente's Cuban Cuisine

Topping the list is Vicente's Cuban Cuisine. Located downtown at 1250 Library St., the dance club and restaurant, which offers seafood paella, tapas and more, is the highest rated seafood spot in Detroit, boasting four stars out of 596 reviews on Yelp.

On the menu, standout options include the pan-seared rainbow trout, lobster tail served with rice and sweet plantains, and the zarzuela de mariscos — an assorted seafood dish consisting of shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels and clams.

2. Joe Muer Seafood

Next up is Joe Muer Seafood, situated at 400 Renaissance Center, Suite 1404,  on the first floor of the GM Renaissance Center downtown. With four stars out of 454 reviews on Yelp, the upscale restaurant with traditional American cuisine has proven to be a local favorite.

Owned by Joe Vicari Restaurant Group, the restaurant has a raw bar, windows overlooking the Detroit River and more than 200 wines. A second location opened in Bloomfield Hills last year.

On the menu, look for seared sea scallops with grapefruit, radish and asparagus, steamed mussels and broiled Lake Superior whitefish. 

3. El Asador

Mexicantown's El Asador, located at 1312 Springwells St., is another top choice. Yelpers give the steakhouse and Mexican eatery, which offers a variety of seafood dishes with shrimp, scallops, salmon and more, four stars out of 251 reviews.

Try one of the signature dishes, such as the mahi-mahi tacos or the baked salmon served in a banana-leaf packet with mushrooms, shrimp, Poblano peppers and a lobster cream sauce.

4. Maru Sushi & Grill Detroit

Maru Sushi & Grill Detroit, a Japanese restaurant and bar that serves up sushi rolls, seafood tempura, calamari and more downtown, is another go-to, with four stars out of 224 Yelp reviews. Head over to 160 W. Fort St. to see for yourself.

Located inside the Federal Building, this is the Michigan-based restaurant group's sixth outpost. Offerings include chef's choice omakase platters and shareable plates of firecracker shrimp, yellowtail carpaccio and ceviche.

5. Iridescence

Finally, there's Iridescence, which has earned four stars out of 215 reviews on Yelp. On the menu you'll find oysters, shrimp, tuna, shellfish and more. The restaurant at 2901 Grand River Ave. is on the 16th floor of the MotorCity Casino Hotel and features scenic views of downtown and the waterfront. 

Offering modern American cuisine, the restaurant has five-course tours of the menu and seafood entrees of lightly smoked Ora King salmon, roasted African prawns with saffron risotto and branzino with English pea ragu.
