Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top doughnut outlets in Detroit, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to score the fried dough confections.
1. Dutch Girl Donuts
Topping the list is Dutch Girl Donuts. This north side staple has been slinging doughnuts since 1947, and not a lot has changed. Regulars like the freshness and the prices ($8 a dozen). There are dozens of flavors, and they range from light and airy to dense and cake-like. Located at 19000 Woodward Ave., this bakery is the highest rated doughnut spot in Detroit, boasting 4.5 stars out of 166 reviews on Yelp.
2. Dilla's Delights
Next up is downtown's Dilla's Delights, situated at 242 John R St. If the name is familiar, it's because founder Herman Hayes is a relative of late rapper J. Dilla, for whom the bakery is named. Opened in 2016, Dilla's Delights boasts more than a dozen flavors and styles, from the Bavarian cream-filled treats to a vegan raisin cake. With 4.5 stars out of 44 reviews on Yelp, Dilla's is a local favorite.
3. Elias Donut
Rosedale Park's Elias Donut is open 24 hours, offering up light and airy donuts all day and night. Some sample flavors: apple sauce, sweet potato, red velvet and sour cream. You can even get your doughnut topped with nuts, coconut or Fruit Loops. You'll also find classic ice cream concoctions like the banana split, as well as smoothies and shakes. Located at 19231 Grand River, it's another top choice, with Yelpers giving it 4.5 stars from 27 reviews.
