1. Mercury Burger Bar

Topping the list is Mercury Burger Bar. Located at 2163 Michigan Ave. in Corktown, the bar and grill is the highest rated burger spot in Detroit, boasting four stars out of 627 reviews on Yelp.
Look for the Southwest Detroit burger topped with chorizo, jalapeños, tortilla strips and avocado; the Flint Burger featuring green olives and mayo; and the New York-style burger topped with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing. Sandwiches include classic grilled cheese, fried bologna and fried egg. This burger joint also offers hot dogs and shakes.

On the menu, you'll find burger options like barbecue bacon and cheddar, a patty melt and mushroom and Swiss. Salads, soups and sandwiches, including a veggie Reuben with Swiss, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing, are also available. Stop in early for omelets, Fruity Pebbles French toast and smothered hash browns.
3. Royale with Cheese

Midtown's Royale with Cheese, located at 4163 Cass Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the spot to score burgers and hand-spun shakes four stars out of 315 reviews. With a name inspired by the 1994 Quentin Tarantino movie "Pulp Fiction," the eatery features a mural of the main characters and other nods to the film.
The burger joint's menu options include the Royale burger with smoked brisket, avocado, Gouda cheese fondue and coleslaw, and the Havana burger topped with turkey bacon, french fries, fried egg and chipotle ketchup. Pair your meal with a salad or a shake with flavors like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, strawberry and cookie butter with Nutella.
4. The Bronx Bar

The Bronx Bar, a dive bar that offers burgers and sandwiches in Midtown, is another go-to, with four stars out of 229 Yelp reviews. Head over to 4476 Second Ave. to see for yourself.
Look for burgers made with beef, turkey or black bean patties, or grab a grilled bologna sandwich on Texas toast or The Stupid Sandwich (turkey, pepperoni and avocado). Breakfast is offered from noon-3 p.m. on weekends.
5. Rusted Crow Detroit

Head downtown to check out Rusted Crow Detroit, a pub that has earned four stars out of 225 reviews on Yelp. The self-dubbed gastrolounge serves up a full menu of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees at 78 W. Adams Ave.
