Stories of Resilience: The Formerly Incarcerated, Drug Addicts + Society’s Castaways

"When we see the homeless and addicted on the streets, can we imagine being them? Do we believe the homeless and addicted will ever live and thrive surrounded by family and community? Do we realize that they already do?" These are the questions posed by this provocative community event, which aims to help those who've overcome addiction, trauma and incarceration "come out of the closet" and share their stories.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to What's Next Washington, which aims to reduce prison recidivism and "replace mass incarceration with anti-racist solutions that work better for everyone."

When: Wednesday, June 20, 6-8 p.m.
Where: Impact Hub Seattle, 220 2nd Avenue S.
Admission: $10

Cephalopod Movie Night with Science Friday

"They're quick, they're clever, they’re masters of disguise"—and every year, public radio program Science Friday dedicates a week to celebrating them. In honor of Cephalopod Week, join the Atlas Obscura Society for a "cephalo-party" at the Swedish Cultural Center, featuring four original short films about octopi, squid and other tentacled friends from the deep.

After the screening, Science Friday executive director Danielle Dana and a special guest will answer guests' questions about the "amazing, adaptive, and sometimes creepy creatures" in the cephalopod family. Drinks will be available for purchase.

When: Thursday, June 21, 7-9 p.m.
Where: Swedish Cultural Center, 1920 Dexter Ave N.
