A new contemporary American restaurant focused on seasonal, local fare has opened its doors on the waterfront in South Lake Union. Called Birch, the second-floor eatery is located at 1001 Fairview Ave. North, Suite 2250.

The kitchen is helmed by chef and owner Jeffrey Kessenich, who offers two dining options: a three-course prix fixe menu or a seven-course chef's tasting menu in which Kessenich whips up his favorite dishes.

The three-course meal includes options such as king oyster mushrooms or king salmon tartare for the first course; duck egg tagliatelle or seared albacore for the second; and entrees like scallops or a rack of lamb for the final course. Vegetarian options are available. Take a look at the full menu here.

Birch has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp based on two reviews.

Paul V., who reviewed the new spot on July 17, wrote, "Birch offered a three-course tasting menu, and chef Jeffrey Kessenich cooked our well-selected salmon tartare, scallops and steak to the perfect temperature and tenderness. Sourcing for Birch is outstanding — the ingredients were fresh, bright, and authentic Northwest."

Yelper Sarah S. wrote, "Excellent food, great location and view. I could not have been more excited for this restaurant to open and was not disappointed. Loved the prix fixe menu options and the unique wine list. A new favorite!"
