Craving Middle Eastern desserts?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top dessert outlets in Dearborn, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to go for baklava, macarons, date cookies and other Middle Eastern pastries.

1. Shatila Bakery

Topping the list is Shatila Bakery. Located at 14300 W. Warren Ave., the Middle Eastern bakery, which offers pastries, ice cream, coffee and more, is the highest rated dessert spot in Dearborn, boasting four stars out of 535 reviews on Yelp.

Its desserts include baklava (with either pistachio, walnut, cashew or almond filling), kanafeh (shredded dough pastry stuffed with sweet cream and topped with sugar syrup), katayef (pancake pastry stuffed with cream, cheese or walnuts, then baked or fried and covered in syrup), maamoul (powdered cookies stuffed with walnuts, dates or pistachios, then lathered in butter), cookies and house-made ice cream. (See its menu here.)

Yelper Solomon K., who reviewed it on March 5, wrote, "The shop is a little overwhelming with how many different types of pastries and desserts they carry, but in a good way. We had the pistachio ice cream and a couple of baklava and it was heavenly. It tasted authentic and definitely beats the baklava you get at a local grocery or even Middle Eastern grocery stores."

2. Masri Sweets

Masri Sweets, located at 5755 Schaefer Road, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the bakery 4.5 stars out of 95 reviews. At the bakery, you can find kanafeh, maamoul, graibeh butter cookies, barazik (sesame snaps), macarons and more.

Malissa M. wrote, "The best kanafeh in Dearborn! Love this place. The staff is the nicest and the shop itself is really clean. They have a large collection of sweets and a few bigger cakes if you're celebrating a birthday or something! Will definitely come here for sweets during Ramadan."

3. Lebon Sweets

Lebon Sweets is another much-loved go-to, with five stars out of 24 Yelp reviews. Head over to 13743 W. Warren Ave. to see for yourself. The Lebanese bakery features baklava, baloureye (shredded phyllo dough lightly baked and stuffed with whole pistachio then soaked in syrup), fresh bread, shibeyat (ashta cream wrapped in phllyo) and more. (See its offerings here.)

Baba D. said, "I have tried kanafeh in Beirut and this truly is the best replica available in the United States. The kaak (bread) that it comes served in is just as delicious, topped with sesame seeds and a crunchy shell, it is the perfect accompaniment to the Lebanese kanafeh."

4. New Yasmeen Bakery

Last but not least, there's New Yasmeen Bakery, a local favorite with four stars out of 123 reviews. Stop by 13900 W. Warren Ave. to hit up the bakery, deli and Middle Eastern spot the next time you're looking to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Among its sweet pastries, you'll find baklava, French macarons, markouk bread (unleavened flatbread), date cookies and more. You can also grab a meal while you're there from its deli counter. (See the full menu here.)

Chris S. visited on March 2 and wrote, "Wonderful Middle Eastern bakery and food spot. Very good quality breads and sweets. There is a large delicatessen-style counter filled with hot prepared food of genuine quality."
