Claressa Shields, the undefeated Flint boxer who has already broken attendance records at Little Caesars Arena, is now negotiating something far bigger: a proposed stadium card at Ford Field that could make her the first female boxer to headline a stadium fight in the United States. Her camp is targeting Saturday, February 6, 2027, the week before the Super Bowl, with hopes of drawing as many as 50,000 fans downtown.
The undisputed champion, who improved to 19-0 after knocking out Kaye Scott in Atlanta on August 15, has spent the past year building the kind of box-office momentum that makes such a leap plausible, according to The Detroit News. Her longtime promoter, Dmitriy Salita, said he discussed the proposed event with Ford Field representatives earlier in the week and described the talks as great. He hopes to finalize the fight by early November, though an opponent and a television or streaming partner remain to be determined.
Salita, a Southfield resident, said the timing is right to make history and break another glass ceiling, and that a Ford Field date should gain visibility and help women's sports grow. Shields, a Flint native, two-time Olympic gold medalist and member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, has fought four of her last six bouts in downtown Detroit, and Salita said he'd like the milestone fight to happen there rather than anywhere else.
A Track Record Built for a Bigger Stage
The case for supersizing Shields' next fight rests on numbers that have climbed steadily. Her July 2025 bout against Lani Daniels at Little Caesars Arena sold out at 15,369 fans and generated nearly $1.5 million in live gate revenue, exceeding the combined ticket revenue of her previous two fights at the venue, according to The Ring. Then in February 2026, her unanimous-decision win over Franchon Crews-Dezurn at the same arena drew nearly 18,000 spectators, setting the venue's all-time attendance record for a boxing event, per Evrim Ağacı. That February bout was also the first fight under Shields' $8 million contract, and the Kaye Scott fight in Atlanta that followed nearly sold out State Farm Arena.
Shields has drawn more than 10,000 fans multiple times for fights in Michigan, and internationally she pulled roughly 20,000 to London's O2 Arena in 2022, where she beat Savannah Marshall by unanimous decision. She has also called herself the sport's undisputed GWOAT, a claim rooted in her status as the only fighter in boxing history, male or female, to hold all four major world sanctioning belts simultaneously across three separate weight divisions, a distinction reported by FOX Sports. That deal with Salita Promotions and music label Wynn Records, signed in November 2025, guaranteed her a minimum of $8 million and established the richest contract in women's boxing history, underwriting the promotional muscle now behind the Ford Field push. Jumping from an 18,000-seat sellout at Little Caesars Arena to a stadium of that size is a dramatic scale shift, one that will require a compelling opponent and broad promotional support to pull off.
National precedent suggests it can be done. The November 2024 rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, drew 72,300 in-person spectators and 74 million global streaming viewers on Netflix, according to the Irish Echo. That fight built on the pair's April 2022 headliner at Madison Square Garden, which sold out at 19,187 fans and was widely seen as a turning point for women's boxing paydays, per Sport for Business.
Opponents Still Under Consideration
Salita said other significant fighters are under consideration for the bout, which is branded as a super fight. Among the names reported by the Detroit News are Lauren Price, a 10-0 fighter from the United Kingdom; Cris Cyborg, a 30-2 fighter from Brazil; and Chantelle Cameron, a 22-1 fighter also from the United Kingdom. No opponent had been finalized as of the report.
The proposed February date would land inside a marquee stretch for downtown Detroit sports hosting, with Ford Field also scheduled to host the NCAA Men's Final Four in April 2027. Hoodline detailed that booking in its report on Ford Field's 2027 Final Four stretch, and the stadium previously hosted the tournament in 2009. Whether Shields' camp can lock in a network partner and a 50,000-plus ticket draw by early November remains the open question hanging over the proposal.
