Now open at 84 Wabasha St. South, Suite 3, on the West Side is Catrina's Mexican Restaurant, its third location in the Twin Cities area.

Catrina's lets you make your own meal from start to finish. First, select three tacos, a burrito, a bowl or a salad as a base. Next, choose a protein (chicken, beef, pork, al pastor, carnitas, chorizo or barbacoa) and then add extras like jalapeños or sour cream before topping it off with a choice of salsa. This spot's menu also includes Mexican sandwiches, nachos, quesadillas and tostadas.

Wander over to 1552 St. Clair Ave. in Mac-Groveland and you'll find Roots Roasting, a coffee roastery that says it's "going back to the roots of what coffee was in the United States before the Industrial Revolution," by using pre-scale traditional methods, per its website.

This new roastery roasts its beans in small batches to get full-bodied flavor. Roasts include Very Berry Ethiopian, Gut-Pleasing Guatemalan, Classic Espresso, Dedicated Decaf and Herbaceous Indonesian. Buyable bags come in five-ounce or 12-ounce sizes.
