Topping the list is wine bar and Italian spot Roman Village Cucina Italiana. Located at 9924 Dix Ave., it's the highest-rated business in the neighborhood, boasting four stars out of 184 reviews on Yelp. The restaurant group has three other southeast Michigan outposts.

According to its website, the establishment was founded over 50 years ago by the Rugiero family and offers signature dishes like gnocchi Rita served with Mama Rita's special pancetta and mushroom sauce, spaghetti carbonara "Alla Bocelli" and Chicken Antonio — pan-prepared chicken breast smothered in a creamy white sauce and topped with provolone cheese.

"This place is amazing!" raved Yelper Taci J. "Definitely puts Olive Garden to shame! I had the Florentine ravioli; it was so good. The bread is addicting and the salad is so fresh."

2. Arabian Village Restaurant

Next up is Arabian Village Restaurant, situated at 10421 Dix. With 4.5 stars out of 41 reviews on Yelp, the Middle Eastern eatery has proven to be a local favorite.

Main dishes include mindi (roasted seasonal lamb), seltah (vegetables, meat and eggs topped with fresh helba) and fahsah (seltah with extra ground meat).

Yelp reviewer Saadia A. had high praise for the restaurant: "Amazing Yemeni comfort food, perfect for a cold winter day but still good to eat in summer. I come from a family of picky eaters but this is one of the few spots we all can agree on. We all love the food! I'm a huge fan of all of their lamb dishes; they make it so tender and full of flavor."

3. Al Nawras Mediterranean Restaurant

Another top choice is Al Nawras Mediterranean Restaurant, which features traditional Yemeni platters. Yelpers give the business, located at 3249 Wyoming Ave., five stars out of 14 reviews.

Dishes include yogurt cucumber salad, grape leaves, Yemeni-style chicken, garlic almond rice gallayah, lamb chops and more. (Find the full menu here.)

"Great food and even better service!" wrote Yelper Mona A. "Their portions are very generous. We had the combo for two and it was enough for four. This is now my go-to for Middle Eastern cuisine. Highly recommend!"

4. Sheeba Restaurant

Sheeba Restaurant, a Yemeni spot at 10327 Dix Ave., is another much-loved neighborhood go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 25 Yelp reviews. It has a second location on Michigan Avenue.

Early birds, check out the hummus with lamb or chicken breakfast dish: minced meat sauteed with onions, tomatoes and Yemeni spices and dressed with hummus. Later in the day, try the maraq, a stew made in a stoneware pot that contains vegetables, fenugreek froth and a mixture of chile peppers, tomatoes, garlic and herbs.

Yelper S D. wrote, "Great tasting fall-off-the-bone lamb! Great customer service. Every little detail of the decor is so well thought out. If you're tired of shawarma and kebabs, then this is a great place to go."

5. Dearborn Sausage Co

Finally, check out Dearborn Sausage Co, located at 2450 Wyoming St. According to its website, the meat shop has been in business for more than seven decades. You can find the Dearborn Brand products at nearly 200 stores across the United States.

In addition to being a butchery, Dearborn Sausage Co offers an array of sandwiches and subs. Check out the fan favorite Italian: ham and salami paired with provolone cheese and Italian dressing.

"We mostly come for sandwiches from the deli counter," wrote Yelper Jacob F. "Word to the wise: opt for the spiral ham on your sandwich! When you pair it with the shaved turkey, it's a fat stack of delicious."
