HomeSlyce JHU
3333 N. Charles St., Charles Village

Local chain HomeSlyce JHU has opened a new location near Johns Hopkins University in the former PJ's Pub space, serving up pizza, sandwiches and more.
Try the grilled chicken sandwich topped with mozzarella cheese, roasted peppers and red onions; chili made with bison meat, pinto beans and cactus; and the spinach and eggplant calzone. On the pizza menu, standout options include the four-cheese pie and the Pop-Pie made with garlic sauce, baby spinach, onions, Gorgonzola and goat cheese. There are also soups and salads on the menu, plus a full bar.
HomeSlyce JHU has received just one review on Yelp so far.
Yelper Denice I., who reviewed it on July 25, wrote, "The bartender and staff were great. We got the Thursday night two-topping special; a slice was a good-sized appetizer for two. We chose beef spujuk — a beef pepperoni and portobello that is very tasty!"
HomeSlyce JHU is open from 11 a.m.–11 p.m. on Monday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.–midnight on Thursday, and 11 a.m.–1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)

Button is a New American restaurant that offers expansive water views, whether eating inside or on the outdoor patio.
Menu offerings include a salad of summer field greens, shaved fennel, grapefruit and cashews with a Concord vinaigrette; and a pan-roasted half chicken prepared with lemon herbs and served with a carrot frisée salad. There are also wood-fired pizzas, a variety of seafood options and an impressive list of signature cocktails.
Button is off to a strong start with four stars out of 11 reviews on Yelp.
Yelper Paris J., who visited on Aug. 1, wrote, "The food was impeccable! My server Caroline was simply amazing. I ordered the crab pizza and it was to die for. ... The watermelon peach froze was the perfect drink for a waterfront sip."
Tracy W. noted, "The stars are mostly for the ambiance and the service. The portions are on the smaller side, which is a bit frustrating considering the price. But the view (both on the deck and the patio) are pretty solid."
Button is open from 5–11 p.m. daily.
Red Star Restaurant
906 S. Wolfe St., Charles Village

Then there's the new Red Star Restaurant, which is serving American and Latin American food near Johns Hopkins. It's an offshoot of Fells Point's Red Star Bar, and although there are some similarities between the menus, the eatery has plenty of new offerings as well.
The new spot offers tacos (tuna, spicy shredded chicken or black bean) in place of pizza. On the menu, there are appetizers like ceviche and Brussels sprouts; entrees such as vegetable spaghetti and jambalaya; plus a long list of burgers including the Cajun burger and the spicy peanut butter burger. Drinks at Red Star Restaurant range from beer and wine to cocktails.
Red Star Restaurant currently holds three stars out of six reviews on Yelp, indicating fair reviews.
Yelper Sharmane G., who reviewed it on June 15, wrote, "I loved the ambiance in general: high ceilings, lots of natural light via tall windows, adequate space for seating, minimal-meets-rustic look. The theme is like a refined American dive bar. Would recommend."
Red Star Restaurant is open 11:30 a.m.–midnight from Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m.–2 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.–2 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.–midnight on Sunday.
