1. Selden Standard

Topping the list is Selden Standard. Located at 3921 Second Ave. in Midtown, it is the highest-rated New American restaurant in Detroit, boasting 4.5 stars out of 894 reviews on Yelp. The restaurant and bar partners with dozens of local farms and producers to create an ever-changing menu that showcases fresh, seasonal ingredients. 

Executive chef Andy Hollyday, a three-time James Beard Award semi-finalist, presents dinner fare like beef tartare with seared bread, beets and cured egg yolk; wild salmon with okra stew, sweet corn and preserved lemon; and grilled trout served with cucumber, yuzu and furikake. 

2. Chartreuse

Next up is Chartreuse, situated at 15 E. Kirby St. in Midtown. With 4.5 stars out of 515 reviews on Yelp, the restaurant has proven to be a local favorite with its selection of small plates.

This popular haunt features lobster fried rice served with rock shrimp, Thai basil and spicy peanuts; wild Alaskan salmon with creamed sweet corn, cucumber and salsa verde; and grilled quail with lamb salami, curry, sweet potato and duck phat cabbage. 

3. Green Dot Stables

Green Dot Stables, located at 2200 W. Lafayette Blvd. in Hubbard-Richard, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the bar and New American spot four stars out of 1,632 reviews. 

This casual joint offers fried chicken Caesar salads with iceberg lettuce and house dressing; Korean beef patty sliders with peanut butter and kimchi; orange-glazed almond duck tenders with chow mein and scallions; Philly cheesesteaks made with ribeye steak, peppers, onions and squeeze cheese; venison chili cheese fries; and quinoa burgers with kale and chimichurri.

Downtown cocktail bar and eatery Standby is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 402 Yelp reviews. Head over to 225 Gratiot Ave. to see for yourself; its door is off the art-filled Belt Alley. 

Get ready for high-end bar food classics like cheeseburgers and fries, fish and chips, flat-iron steaks, mussels, short rib tacos, mixed olives, Gold Coast shrimp and more. The establishment offers a full bar featuring top-shelf whiskey, agave, rum, gin, brandy, amaro, wines and beer.

And last but not least, over in Corktown, check out Batch Brewing Company. You can find the fancy brewpub, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 331 reviews on Yelp, at 1400 Porter St.

Belly up to the counter and order eats like gator gumbo with crawfish, andouille sausage and white rice; breaded and stuffed risotto balls; nachos with pepper jack sauce, roasted poblano pico, avocado and jalapeño; Thai chili chicharrones with green onions; and braised pork belly with sweet and spicy tomato preserve, arugula, and smoked garlic aioli served on bolillo bread.
