A new fast-casual eatery offering sushi and poke has opened for business in downtown Birmingham. Located at 126 S. Old Woodward Ave., the new addition is called Kaku Sushi & Poké. This is its second location after the one in Bloomfield Hills.
You can build your own poke or sushi roll, or choose premade ones off the menu. Poke bowls include the Salmon Ponzu with shiso, scallion, cucumber, fresh jalapeño, edamame, nori seaweed, sesame seeds and ponzu sauce; and the Spicy Tuna with wasabi greens, scallions, nori seaweed, sesame seeds, crispy onion and umami soy sauce.
Sushi options include rolls like the Tuna Nigiri, Salmon Shiso and the Large Scallop Nigiri. (See the full menu here.)
With a five-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh arrival is enjoying rave reviews from locals.
Sarah C., who reviewed it on Sept. 10, wrote, "What an amazing find! Where has this been all my life? Forgot how much I like poke. The food did not disappoint. So simple yet tasty, and the presentation was amazing too. The place had a very good atmosphere with friendly staff. "
