Looking for a yummy Sichuan meal near you? Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top Sichuan spots around Pittsburgh, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're on the hunt.
1. Sichuan Gourmet
Topping the list is Sichuan Gourmet. Located at 1900 Murray Ave. in Squirrel Hill, it is the highest rated Sichuan restaurant in Pittsburgh, boasting four stars out of 252 reviews on Yelp.
The eatery's expansive menu includes everything from noodle soups and stir-fried rice entrees to spicy lamb skewers and hot pot casserole. Standout options include the Sichuan beef noodle soup, three pepper diced chicken and spicy rabbit in a flaming pan. Vegetarian and vegan entrees are also on offer, as are a variety of appetizers, lunch combos and chef specialties.
2. Szechuan Spice
Shadyside's Szechuan Spice, located at 5700 Centre Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the sushi bar and Sichuan spot, which also offers hot pot and dim sum, four stars out of 68 reviews.
On the menu, offerings include pan-fried hot peppers, sliced pork belly in hot black bean sauce, Sichuan-style lamb, fish with pickled peppers and seafood with a sizzling rice crust.
3. Hunan Bar
Then there's Hunan Bar in Oakland, which has earned four stars out of 58 Yelp reviews. Head over to 239 Atwood St. to try it for yourself.
The expansive menu includes chef's specials, lunch and dinner combos, casseroles, vegetarian-friendly entrees, cold dishes and American-style Chinese fare. Check out house favorites such as braised whole fish with Sichuan-chile sauce, salt and pepper fish fillets, braised beef tendon, sliced lamb with cabbage and leeks and tea-smoked duck. Thirsty? Yelper N M., who reviewed the restaurant on Aug. 2, wrote, "This is my favorite Sichuan restaurant in town. I have compared their mapo tofu with the same dish at four other places, and this one is the best by far. Similarly, their bok choy and mushrooms are garlicky and perfect."
