Shopping for comic books?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top comic book spots in San Antonio, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're in the market for the latest issue or that rare vintage item.

1. Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy

Topping the list is Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy. Located at 7959 Fredericksburg Road, Suite 129, in the Oak Hills Center, the hobby shop, which offers comic books, tabletop games and more, is the highest-rated comic book spot in San Antonio, boasting 4.5 stars out of 40 reviews on Yelp.

The shop offers new comics, which you can check out here before you head to the store. Besides comics, it also hosts events, including board game nights, D&D campaigns, Magic: The Gathering tournaments, Warhammer 40K matches and more. (See the calendar of events here.)

Yelper Cynthia T., who reviewed it on May 6, wrote, "The comic books are easily accessible by alphabetization, and the trade paperbacks are not too far away either. The walls are lined with merchandise, including plushies, shirts, Funko Pop! figurines, games, cards, etc. Japanese and American snacks are available for purchase, too. There's even a wall dedicated solely to new releases."

2. Bazinga Comics

Next up is Bazinga Comics, situated at 2941 Thousand Oaks Drive, Suite 101. With 4.5 stars out of 21 reviews on Yelp, the spot to score comic books has proven to be a local favorite.

It carries a wide selection of new comics, with fresh inventory arriving every Wednesday. (See its inventory of new comics here.) You can also pick up graphic novels and memorabilia.

"What a great comic book store!" said Yelper Tori E. "There are so many nooks and crannies stocked with comics. The employees are very nice and are super helpful if you're a little lost among the sea of comics. The shop cats are quite friendly too. They make excellent companions while sifting away through the bins of comics. Whether you're an avid collector or new to the comic world, Bazinga comics has something for everyone."

3. Alien Worlds

Alien Worlds, located at 6900 San Pedro Ave. in Shearer Hills, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the toy store and hobby shop, which offers comic books and more, four stars out of 29 reviews. It has one other location in San Antonio off Loop 410.

It sells both new and vintage comic books, graphic novels, figurines and games. The shop also hosts regular events, including game nights and tournaments.

Yelp reviewer Rebecca L. wrote, "They have a great variety of new age and back-order comics. The owner and staff are very friendly, helpful and patient when you take time to browse through their older comics. The also have a gaming area for HeroClix, and they sell Clix and Magic cards. All your comic and gaming needs can be met here."
