Topping the list is Lucy Ethiopian Cafe. Named for the fossil hominid discovered in Ethiopia, Lucy offers proudly spicy takes on Ethiopian classics like key wot, tibs and the raw beef kitfo. Vegans will appreciate the menu section dedicated to their preferences, while the peanut tea is a favorite on the drinks menu.

Located at 334 Massachusetts Ave. in Back Bay, it is the highest-rated Ethiopian restaurant in Boston, boasting four stars out of 359 reviews on Yelp.

2. Blue Nile Restaurant

Next up is Jamaica Plain's Blue Nile Restaurant, situated at 389 Centre St. It has a similar menu to Lucy's, with equally well-represented vegetarian menu. Telba fit fit, for example, is lightly roasted and ground flax seeds mixed in onion, berbere sauce, jalapeño peppers and olive oil with pieces of injera, while yekik alicha is split yellow peas simmered in red onion, olive oil, garlic and ginger and seasoned with turmeric. Try the house-made honey wine. With four stars out of 262 reviews on Yelp, the restaurant has proven to be a local favorite.

Finally, Ethiopian Cafe, located at 377 Centre St., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it five stars out of 24 reviews. It's another Jamaica Plain option. In fact, it was opened by the proprietor of Blue Nile, its nearby neighbor, in 2017, primarily to provide more seating to customers of the original restaurant as Blue Nile increasingly filled to capacity, according to Jamaica Plain News. They share an almost identical menu. Do consider trying Ethiopian Cafe's authentic Ethiopian coffee.
