Visiting Greektown, or just looking to better appreciate what it has to offer? Get to know this Baltimore neighborhood by browsing its most popular local restaurants, offering everything from Greek to Dominican to Indian fare.

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top places to visit in Greektown, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of neighborhood businesses. Read on for the results.

1. Samos Restaurant

Topping the list is Greek spot Samos Restaurant, which first opened in 1977. Located at 600 Oldham St., it's the highest-rated business in the neighborhood, boasting 4.5 stars out of 423 reviews on Yelp.

It serves mostly traditional dishes like gyros, souvlaki and dolmas. As you might expect at a restaurant named for an island, there is quite a bit of seafood available, including broiled Chilean sea bass, baked jumbo shrimp and a fillet of flounder sandwich.

Alcohol is not served, but you can bring your own for a fee. Note that credit cards are not accepted. 

2. Zorba's Bar & Grill

Next up is Greek restaurant Zorba's Bar & Grill, situated at 4710 Eastern Ave. The local staple features spit-roasted meats that are prepared in-house.

On the menu, offerings include souvlaki, gyros and kontosouvli. Seafood options range from calamari and fish roe to fried shrimp and grilled scallops. And leave room for dessert — the restaurant has baklava, flan and more. With 4.5 stars out of 105 reviews on Yelp, it's proven to be a local favorite.

3. Greek Town Grill

Greek Town Grill is another top choice. Greek fare in this small restaurant includes gyros, souvlaki and spanakopita.

There's more than Greek, however. There are lots of Indian options, like biryani, tandoori and masala dishes, plus Nepalese food, including the dumplings known as momos. For American fare, expect pizzas, subs and sandwiches. Yelpers give the business, located at 4715 Eastern Ave., four stars out of 80 reviews.

4. El Merengue Restaurant Dominican Cuisine

El Merengue Restaurant Dominican Cuisine at 4713 Eastern Ave. is another much-loved neighborhood go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 30 Yelp reviews. The menu has mofongo and seafood, as you'd expect from a Dominican restaurant, but also dishes inspired by Italian and Latin American cuisines like fajitas and linguini with shrimp.

For a special treat, try the Dominican soda brand Country Club in flavors like raspberry and orange. 

5. Acropolis Restaurant

Finally, check out Acropolis Restaurant, which has earned four stars out of 38 reviews on Yelp. You can find the restaurant at 4718 Eastern Ave.

House entrees include baked baby lamb, flounder stuffed with crab imperial and lamb shish kebab. Or sample a range of Greek cuisine with the Olympic platter; it includes dolmas, chicken souvlaki, roast leg of lamb, pastitsio, moussaka, tzatziki and more. Enjoy Old World, including Greek, and New World wines.
