
Crime incidents in Newport Beach saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 387 for the week of December 10, up from 328 the week before.
The overall increase in crime reports was led by theft and assault. Theft rose to 59 incidents last week, from 48 the week before. Assault went from six to 13. Reports of theft have continued to grow for the last two weeks.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a considerable percentage increase in vandalism, from one incidents per week to five, and in robbery, from four to five incidents.
There were 82 reported burglary incidents last week. That represents an increase from 81 incidents the previous week. There was also one shooting incident.

There were 207 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 33 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 15 arrests were made last week, up from 13 arrests the week before.
As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Corona Del Mar continued to have the most reported incidents last week.
Corona Del Mar experienced the highest growth in crime.
Regarding day and time factors, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays witnessed the most crime incidents last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, while incidents on Tuesdays and Sundays went down. Late afternoon, evening and early afternoon saw the most crime last week.
