
Crime incidents in Santa Monica saw an overall increase last week, for the second week in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 764 for the week of December 17, up from 719 the week before.
The offenses that increased the most were theft and vandalism. Theft rose to 114 incidents last week, from 88 the week before. Vandalism went from 18 to 25.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a notable percentage increase in arson, from two incidents per week to six, and in burglary, from 37 to 41 incidents.
Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of assault went from 100 to 89, and robbery fell from 10 to seven.

There were 473 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of 17 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that nine arrests were made last week, down from 10 arrests the week before.
Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Sunset Park continued to have the most reported incidents last week.

Regarding when most crimes are committed, Mondays, Thursdays and Tuesdays saw the most crime incidents last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Thursdays, Tuesdays and Mondays, while incidents on Fridays, Sundays and Wednesdays went down. After midnight, evening and early afternoon continue to see the most crime incidents.
