
Crime reports in Newport Beach saw an overall decrease last month, for the fifth month in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.
Incidents fell by 1.3 percent, from 1,667 in November to 1,645 in December. Crime levels tend to follow seasonal patterns, and some of the most common offenses tend to decline in winter, which might partly explain the most recent downward trend.

There were six shooting reports last month, and 27 robbery incidents. Shooting incidents remained at about the same level as in the previous month, as did robbery reports.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, burglary reports went from 382 to 428. Theft incidents rose from 182 to 198, and assault incidents went up from 47 to 51.

When it comes to crime patterns in different areas of the city, the largest decline last month occurred in Corona Del Mar.
Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays saw the most reported crimes. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Thursdays, Fridays and Tuesdays, while incidents on Sundays, Saturdays and Mondays went up. Early afternoon, late afternoon and late morning saw the most crime on average each day.
