
Crime incidents in Santa Monica saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 699 for the week of January 14, down from 746 the week before.
The offenses that decreased the most were burglary and theft. Burglary fell to 39 incidents last week, from 45 the week before. Theft went from 85 to 82.

There was one reported arson last week. That represents a decrease from three incidents the previous week. There were also two shooting incidents.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of assault went from 60 to 65.

There were 485 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 37 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, nine involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 11 reported arrests the week before.
As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Sunset Park, Brentwood and Anaheim Resort continued to have the most reported incidents last week.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Fridays, Sundays and Tuesdays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Thursdays and Tuesdays, while incidents on Sundays and Fridays went up. After midnight, early morning and late night continue to see the most crime incidents.
