First, civil rights journalist and activist Dorothy Butler is set to discuss her new memoir this Thursday evening at the National Press Club

Butler started her career reporting in the late 1950s, reporting on the process of school integration in Little Rock. In 1961 she became the first black reporter at The Washington Post, where for more than 30 years she covered politics, education and race. After her presentation, Butler will take audience questions and sign copies of her book.

Black Girl Balanced: A Day Of Self-Care and Awareness at Swedenborgian Center

Local nonprofit The Powerscope is offering a "day of self-care and awareness" for women of color at the Swedenborgian Center. The day includes everything from yoga and meditation to a sensual dance workshop and panel discussions with influential women of color.

Australia Day Party at Blackfinn Ameripub

Finally, another year has come and gone, which must mean it's almost time for Australia Day. This Saturday, celebrate the occasion with Aussie music, meat pies and drink specials at the Blackfinn Ameripub in Downtown D.C. Proceeds will support the event's sponsor, the D.C. Eagles Football Club, a nonprofit organization that promotes Australian Rules Football in the Capital City.
