
Crime incidents in Santa Monica saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 698 for the week of January 28, down from 726 the week before.
The overall decrease in crime reports was led by theft and robbery. Theft fell to 67 incidents last week, from 83 the week before. Robbery went from eight to five.

There were 76 reported assault incidents last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week. There were also 33 incidents of burglary, down from 35 the week before.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of arson went from one to two.

There were 494 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of five from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, six involved arrests, such as for drug possession, the same number as the week before.
Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, Sunset Park, Pacific Palisades, and Anaheim Resort had the most reported incidents last week. Sunset Park and Pacific Palisades were at the top of the list the previous week as well.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Mondays, Fridays and Tuesdays witnessed the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Saturdays, Sundays and Thursdays, while incidents on Mondays, Fridays and Tuesdays went up. After midnight, early morning and late night continue to see the most crime incidents.
