The number of crime incidents in Plano saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 211 for the week of March 4, down from 255 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were theft and assault. Theft fell to 98 incidents last week, from 114 the week before. Assault went from 25 to 21.

There were 26 reported burglary incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 28 incidents the previous week. There was also one incident of robbery, down from five the week before.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of arson went from zero to two, and vandalism rose from 20 to 21.

There were 42 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 21 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 25 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, down from 31 reported arrests the week before.

As far as where crime is concentrated in the city, Briarwood, Liberty Park and Old Towne had the most reported incidents last week. Liberty Park and Old Towne were at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Regarding day and time factors, Thursdays, Mondays and Tuesdays produced the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. Comparing times of day, late afternoon, midday and late night saw the most crime last week.
