IDA Presents: 'Home Page' and the D-Word in Los Angeles

On Tuesday, come to a special screening of "Home Page," Doug Block's 1999 documentary that follows Justin Hall, who is considered the first blogger. Part of the International Documentary Association's 20th anniversary celebration, this screening is presented in partnership with the D-Word, an online community of documentary professionals that emerged from Hall's personal blog. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with Block and Hall, moderated by Marjan Safinia, former IDA board president.

Screening and discussion with Mexican director Juan Pablo Gonzalez

Discover Juan Pablo Gonzalez, an emerging filmmaker, on Thursday night at the Mexican Center for Culture and Cinematic Arts. Two of his independent short films — "¿Por qué el recuerdo" / "The Solitude of Memory" (2014) and "Las Nubes" (2017) — will be screened, followed by a Q&A with Gonzalez. He was named one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film" in 2015.

Film screening and artist talk: 'American Native'

Also on Thursday, learn the story of the Ramapough Lenape Indians, a tribe located just outside of New York City that is seeking recognition as Native Americans in Steven Oritt's documentary "American Native." Shown as part of the Identities film series from Venice Arts, "American Native" has won three best documentary awards and has screened at 13 international film festivals.

Buster Keaton's 'The General'

Enjoy a Saturday matinee screening of Buster Keaton's "The General." The story follows Keaton as a Confederate Army train engineer who must prove himself a fighter when Union spies steal his train  — "The General" of the title — and his lady.
