The number of crime incidents in Milwaukee saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 3,266 for the week of March 25, down from 3,465 the week before.

The specific offenses that decreased the most were assault and theft. Assault fell to 494 incidents last week, from 565 the week before. Theft went from 341 to 313.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a sizable percentage decrease in burglary, from 183 incidents per week to 169, and in shootings, from 239 to 226 incidents.

There were 38 reported robbery incidents last week. That represents a decrease from 42 incidents the previous week.

Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of vandalism went from 146 to 167.

There were 1,859 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 90 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, 113 involved arrests, such as for drug possession, up from 104 reported arrests the week before.

Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Old North Milwaukee, Harambee and Silver Spring had the most reported incidents last week. Old North Milwaukee and Harambee were at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Sherman Park saw the largest decline. Crime reports in North Division also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Metcalfe Park are down considerably as well.

Regarding day and time factors, Fridays, Thursdays and Saturdays saw the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Mondays, while incidents on Fridays and Wednesdays went up. Comparing times of day, late afternoon, evening and after midnight saw the most crime last week.
