Dogs in Omaha looking for their furr-ever homesPhotos: Petfinder

Interested in adopting a pet — or just looking at some lovable pups? There are dozens of deserving dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Omaha.

Animal shelters work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

Hoodline offers data-driven analysis of local happenings and trends across cities. Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.

Charlie, Wheaten terrier

Charlie is a handsome male Wheaten terrier dog currently residing at Midwest Wheaten Rescue.

Fear not: he's already house-trained. He's vaccinated and neutered.

Notes from Charlie's caretakers:

Charlie came to us from a family who cared well for him. However, due to changes in the family, they could no longer give him the time he deserves. Charlie is six-and-a-half years old, and he's a pretty typical Wheaten boy. He's sweet, playful, inquisitive and all around adorable. Charlie loves being around people, and he likes other dogs as well. Charlie has adjusted well to being in his foster home. He loves going for walks, and he enjoys running around in the yard. Charlie enjoys the yard, so he requires a safe fenced-off area.

Kiki, Alaskan malamute

Kiki is a female Alaskan malamute dog being cared for at Taysia Blue Siberian Husky Rescue.

Kiki needs special time to bond with you: She will need a home free of other dogs. Cats and children are acceptable. Kiki is already spayed and vaccinated. Have no fear: she is already house-trained.

From Kiki's current caretaker:

Kiki enjoys spending time with people and most children. She gets startled by fireworks, thunder, bubble wrap and crinkly plastic, and loves to spend her time napping. Kiki is also well behaved in the house and doesn't climb on the furniture. Finally, she needs an owner who can handle a large dog and can take her on regular walks.

Jet likes to socialize, and he's happy to keep company with other dogs. He's already house-trained. He is vaccinated and neutered.

Jet's current caretakers say:

Jet makes a great running partner, especially since he has wonderful leash manners and doesn't pull. He loves hiking and going on adventures in the great outdoors. Jet also serves as a  good family dog, too. He loves to cuddle and will do anything for a treat or a good back scratch.

Katmai, Labrador retriever and Siberian husky mix

Katmai is a darling female Labrador retriever and Siberian husky mix staying at Taysia Blue Siberian Husky Rescue.

She's already house-trained. She is spayed, and she has all her shots.

From Katmai's current caretaker:

Katmai loves to play, especially with balls, and appreciates short walks throughout the day. She also likes to interact with people and loves cuddles, scratches and belly rubs. She's not extremely comfortable around larger dogs in the home. As a quick learner, Katmai needs a family that can keep up with her training and teach her new things.

Clay, Siberian husky mix

Clay is a male Siberian husky mix staying at Taysia Blue Siberian Husky Rescue.

Clay loves other dogs. His vaccinations are already up to date, and he's neutered.

Clay's current caretakers say:

Clay is full of energy and loves running and playing, so he's in need of an active family. Because he's high energy, it's probably best if he's not placed in a house with really small children. Clay is suitable for older children and loves to play fetch. He's also a smart dog with several tricks under his belt.
