The number of reported crimes in Plano saw an overall decrease for the week of Oct. 1 to Oct. 7, after a previous rise, according to data from CrimeoMeter, which collects reports from police agencies and validated sources. The number of reported incidents fell to 272 in the latest seven-day period of available police reports, down from 285 the week before.
Drug-related offenses and auto theft attempts led the decrease in crime incidents. The number of reported drug-related offenses fell to 20 incidents, down from 31 the week before, and reported attempts of auto thefts dropped from 14 to 10.
Among other categories, there was also a decrease in the number of criminal mischief reports, down from 17 incidents per week to 14, and in alcohol-related offenses, down from 18 to 15 incidents.
There were 30 reported assault incidents, a decrease from 31 reported incidents the previous week. There were also four incidents of homicide.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick, the number of fraud or financial crime reports rose from 34 to 44. The number of reported incidents of burglary rose from 39 to 43, and the number of theft reports rose from 43 to 46.
There were 24 reports of miscellaneous other crimes, a decrease of four incidents from the previous week. Other crimes includes a variety of offenses like trespassing, public disturbance and violation of a court order.
Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Old Towne, Clearview and Park Forest had the most reported incidents. Old Towne and Park Forest were at the top of the list the previous week as well. Reports of crime increased in Old Towne and Thunderbird.
Crime in Ridgewood went up the most. The number of incident reports in Clearview also rose, after declining the week before, and the number of reported crimes in Liberty Park is up considerably as well.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday saw the most crime incidents. The largest decreases from the previous week occurred on Friday, Monday and Tuesday, while the number of reported incidents on Wednesday, Saturday and Thursday went up. Comparing times of day, early afternoon, late morning and late afternoon continue to see the most crime incidents.
