Want the intel on New York City's buzziest local spots?
We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp and SafeGraph, a dataset of commercial points of interest and their visitor patterns, to analyze which restaurants have been on the tips of diners' tongues this month.
To find out who made the list, we first looked at New York City businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance. Then we analyzed foot traffic data from SafeGraph to validate the trends.
Read on to see which spots are getting plenty of attention, right now.
Del Posto

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Chelsea's Del Posto, the popular Italian restaurant has seen a major increase in foot traffic recently.
Over the past month, Del Posto stayed on par with the median 1.4% increase in new reviews for businesses categorized as "Italian" on Yelp and maintained its superior four-star rating; meanwhile, the number of visitors to Del Posto more than tripled over the same time frame, according to SafeGraph's foot traffic data.
Located at 85 10th Ave. (at the corner of 16th Street), this staple of NYC's Italian dining scene, from mother-son celebrity chef team Lidia and Joe Bastianich, offers guests an upscale dinner experience featuring five and eight-course tasting menus ($179 and $209 per person, respectively).
